4.5/5 ★ – AWasch's review of Devil May Cry 5.
Finished this in 4 days or so and had a blast. By far this is the most stylish and vibrant game in the series since DMC3 and I have to say this might be my favorite entry so far and I cannot wait for DMC6 and the future endeavors of Nero. Which is bewildering to say that this game made me actually give a shit about Nero and like him as a character.
Pros
-The high-octane gameplay of the series peaks with this entry, each of the three protagonists are genuinely very fun to play and have very VERY distinct styles of gameplay.
-The enemies movesets are well designed to mxi well with each character
-Tonally DMC5 takes itself a little bit seriously, but not as much as DMC4 and the like where it seems to take itself too seriously, a lot of the characters are pretty chill about their situation
-The music overall was pretty memorable and ranged from corny upbeat electronic battle rock to a subtle somber violin
-The story was serviceable but easily the most engaging of the games thus far, and Neros character arc was genuinely interesting and relatable
Cons
-As mentioned previously, story isn’t all that great, which outside of a few minor issues, is really the thing holding this game back from masterpiece quality
