5/5 ★ – AdamFiddle's review of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Honestly, what a perfect trilogy.
This was the first MGS game I played (which turned out to be a good idea, since it’s the first in the chronology), and replaying it fifteen years later, not only does it hold up almost perfectly, it’s been an absolute ride seeing how much this game has become part of my creative DNA since.
Just a total rollercoaster from start to finish, not an ounce of fat on it either. Naked Snake is such an autistic chad, I love him so much. I’ve always had a preference for Solid Snake out of the two, but there’s no denying Big Boss is one of the best characters in gaming. Also EVA, despite being a constant object of titillation, is still probably one of the best female characters in the series.
Every setpiece, every boss battle, every codec call, all the quirks, the meals, the gadgets, god! They just don’t make them like they used to! How is it that Kojima so obviously wanted to be a filmmaker, and yet when he has to make a game instead, he still pushes the medium in new directions and keeps it entertaining?! How the fuck did this come out in 2004?! I wish that developers saw this as the benchmark for single player games instead of Grand Theft Auto, we’d be in a different world.
Kinda desperately need Vol. 2 of these remasters to release now because I never played Peace Walker, and I haven’t played MGS4 in like a decade either.
Also what a fucking theme song.
