2.5/5 ★ – Aliliane's review of Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.

Date beaten: 12/7/2025 Time taken: 8 hours in 3 days I’m actually impressed at how much it managed to disappoint me. With lower than average gameplay (Dishonoored 1 & 2 are far more experimental) and a distasteful story that, again like Dishonored 2, defeats what the amazing DLCs of Dishonored 1 did. Overall, bad game. For anyone who wants to get into the series: don’t. Just play the first game. The second? Only for gameplay and completely skip the story. This game? Don’t even bother. Pros: Lore expansion, although poorly executed. I guess you could kill everything and anything without worry, but you have no reason to touch the game after beating it. Cons: The chaos measurement is taken out, which makes your decisions in gameplay pretty useless. It was one of the things that made this series special, allowing replay-ability. What they did to the outsider’s character is also bad. Gameplay: 6/10 Lower than average. I absolutely loved Billie in Dishonored 1 & 2. It would only make sense for me to enjoy playing as her, right? But no. She has less abilities than all of the playable characters across the series, and these abilities aren’t even good. I hated playing those missions. The only enjoyable mission was the bank job, which had multiple ways to be done. Story: 2/10 Dude, what? The outsider… really? Being ambiguous and neutral was his biggest charm. He truly felt like what he is: an outsider. A visitor. Someone who’s here and nowhere. He helped Corvo in his journey and the chaos mechanic showed what the outsider’s morals truly are. He might be neutral and doesn’t only give powers to “good” people, but he will judge your choices. He judged Corvo and Daud both. Warned Daud more than once and helped him save himself. I enjoyed the way he was written… Outside of everything, beyond their reach. Just watches. This game made him into a joke. Turning him into a normal human guy is stupid… Killing him is even worse. Even if he was made into what he is through a tragedy, un-tragic-tifying him is so dumb I’m genuinely speechless. Why did you do this to your own world-building? Dishonored 1 was great in so many things, as a standalone it’s nearly perfect. Its world-building was one of my favorite things about it. I can’t emphasize at how much this game destroys what made Dishonored 1’s story unique, and don’t even get me started on the DLCs. Visuals/Design: 9/10 It’s just like Dishonored 2 with reused areas. Still beautiful. Overall: 5/10 Like I said, don’t bother with it. I enjoy Arkane studios work as a whole, so I hope they never make something like that ever again.
