3.5/5 ★ – AllieN7's review of Alan Wake's American Nightmare.
Combat is better than the original Alan Wake (mostly thanks to the new guns adding a lot more variety) but this definitely suffers from the lack narrative and atmosphere that made the original game so amazing.
A lot of this game’s structure is repeating the same 3 maps, 3 different times, which sounds unbelievably repetitive, but they are relatively quick runs, with differently objectives, and pretty big maps that make them feel more like open hub worlds, which absolutely makes it feel way less annoying than it otherwise would be.
Didn’t really mess around with the Arcade mode, but enjoyed this for what it is, a less story focused and more action oriented spin off game that kinda functions as an epilogue/DLC to Alan Wake 1. (Even though Alan Wake 1 had 2 dlcs that kinda did the same thing anyways)
Only recommend this to absolute die hard fans of the original game, because if you don’t really care much about it than you’ll most likely find this extremely annoying and repetitive despite it’s 3 hour runtime. Thankfully it’s pretty often on sale for really cheap.
