3.5/5 ★ – AllieN7's review of Dark Souls II: Crown of the Sunken King.

Probably the least visually appealing area out of the 3 main dark souls 2 dlc locations, but the level design with things looping back into itself with shortcuts and bonfires is extremely satisfying and really makes this an enjoyable time. The area is extremely confusing with all sorts of paths and obstacles, that when you finally figure it all out and realize how it all came together, it’s really satisfying. Still contains some of the main game’s issues like enemy spam and frustrating hit boxes, but the overall level design, atmosphere, visual storytelling, and pure exploration really allows this to shine over a majority of the main game’s areas. The 2 bosses are just fine Dark Souls 2 fights, but the optional “gank squad” as the community calls it, is just pure dark souls 2 laziness complete with a painful boss run if you die. Overall, it’s pretty enjoyable and entertaining little side area. To be honest, these dlcs are probably 10 times more fun with a coop partner but unfortunately I played solo.
