4/5 ★ – AllieN7's review of Doom 64.
More Doom, but man I cannot get enough of this franchise.
Kinda crazy to me that this is basically a sequel to Doom 1 and 2 but was originally released exclusively for the Nintendo 64. Has a more dark, horror, and atmospheric feel compared to the previous games in the classic Doom lineup, as well as a more emphasis on puzzles compared to run and gun action of old, less enemies per level and more puzzles makes this much more slow paced which is not at all a bad thing as this game is so effective at it’s horror feel and vibe.
Do think the annoying and unnecessary backtracking that was present in doom 2 is a little worse here even if the levels aren’t nearly as overly massive, but I think the game’s level design is overall pretty solid with some really fun and unique sections. Feels like an experiment before they went all in with the horror in Doom 3, but still very worthwhile for fans of this series. Can definitely see why this has such a cult following.
