4.5/5 ★ – AllieN7's review of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
So awesome Kojima basically said “let’s make Monster Hunter, but Metal Gear.”
And of course the PSP is a perfect console to format that sort of idea! This being the first mission based mainline MGS game (I know portable ops is kind of mainline depending on who you ask and was also mission based, but I’m mostly talking about the Kojima games here.) Was really a great call, as the episodic nature of this game’s structure really fits the PSP and its battery life.
If MGS 1-V was Kojima blurring the lines between gaming and film, PW is him doing the same but with television and it’s just as awesome as it sounds.
It’s really a fascinating game, every Metal Gear is known to push the hardware at the time to it’s absolute limit and I can only imagine this was basically as far as the PlayStation Portable could possibly go. The comic style cutscenes are definitely the most “oh, this is clearly a limitation of the hardware.” The game gets, but even they have insane style and honestly I actually love them.
Loved this game, far from being my favorite MGS entry but it really does rock and it’s far and away the best PSP game I’ve played so far.
