3/5 ★ – Amine2's review of Ys I & II Chronicles+.

These are good games, but I just can't get into the combat. It's bump combat but it's just so...boring and repetitive after a while. I also don't like how labyrinth-y and dark the areas can be in this game. I didn't mind it too much in original versions because those games were released in the late 80s, but I think these games should've been remade in the napishtim style. I also find the bosses to be either boring or just frustrating. Ys II introduces magic, but the fire magic is the only combat magic, so it doesn't add much. The game looks beautiful and the music is amazing, which is something I notice is consistent with this series. And I do like the story even if it can dialog heavy. Overall these games I play through once and just move onto the other games which I think are better. They're short games, sure, but that's not enough for me to return to. Maybe I might, who knows?
