3.5/5 ★ – ArditB2006's review of The Callisto Protocol.
It’s an pretty good Sci-Fi Horror Game similar to Dead Space & Resident Evil but meets the Aliens franchise (which Alien: Romulus is the latest movie from that series), the combat is good when you stick your joystick on the left to the left when an zombie attacks you like an parry or something for an defense, the gameplay is like Resident Evil & Dead Space games but set on another world where Black Iroh has an terror attack formerly caused by Dani, Jacob has to stop the attack which things got into an plot twist that Jacob & Dani got arrested by the UJC, escorted by the brute security officer named Ferris, Jacob has to find out where it’s going on, the guns are cool (especially the riot gun & shotgun), the music is terrifying, the graphics are cool (especially when you play it on Xbox Series S/X on performance mode, it’s still cool, but not good as PC in my opinion ((Content Warning// SPOILERS for those who never played the game)), in the end of the game, where Jacob defeats Ferris, Duncan Cole which doesn’t let Jacob & Dani to escape, decided to let Jacob go & force Dani to escape with her one space pod, Jacob’s partner, Max (which he is the zombie version of him, probably dead alongside Elias Porter), jumpscares the living shit out of Jacob, so yeah, the game itself is good but NOT as good as Resident Evil 4 nor the original Dead Space games
(If you have never played this game, i bet this game may be worth it if you like Resident Evil, Dead Space, Alien Isolation & other sci-fi horror content)
Pros:
- Good Graphics
- gunplay is cool
- combat is nice
- the story is a bit short but it can be a little longer as well
- the waterslide level from Chp 4 is fun
- the designs of the enemies/infected zombies are scary (especially Ferris in final form)
- Music is scarily terrifying
- the weapon upgrades (which is inspired by Dead Space) is cool
Cons:
- The game in the menu actually says “new experience” when your save data is deleted (but it’s not because it’s bug, always recommended to play new experience to skip the cutscenes and your save data is there when you load it in the pause menu)
- guns can get difficult to reload when in-combat with zombies or creatures
- The Ferris (final form) boss battle in the final level may be difficult and challenging where you have to run away, get ammo or grab some explosive things to it
- not enough scariness like most modern AAA horror games nowadays (expect for the jumpscares and music)
