3.5/5 ★ – ArinTheWolf's review of Valheim.

So I want to say that I love this game. It’s beautiful, and learning things as I go is incredibly satisfying in this game. But the thing that’s holding it back from being fully enjoyable is the core survival mechanics. Valheim tries to do so many things that they start bringing the game down to a slog. It has a hunger bar, stamina bar, limited inventory, and limited weight capacity. Having all these things at one makes it a pain in the ass to manage at once. You sprint for five seconds and all your stamina is gone, and it takes 15 seconds to refill. It just makes it harder to do anything when half the time you’re out of stamina. I know Minecraft has had 10 years worth of updates under its belt, but the core mechanics of Minecraft, even in its ALPHA, are still fun to use. You only have a hunger bar, and a limited inventory. The hunger bar serves several purposes, like regenerating health, and allowing you to sprint as long as the bar is filled at all. Valheim adding so much more just makes it tedious to get used to. So in its current state, I cannot recommend you pick up Valheim just yet. Wait until they change the gameplay enough to make it less tedious to play through. Also, give me a trash option for items for FUCK’s sake.
