4.5/5 ★ – Artagah's review of BioShock Infinite.
While I feel like this game didn't quite live up to all of its lofty pre-release promises, it was still an incredible time all the way through! Loved the mind blowing setting, all the incredible set pieces, the gorgeous art style that holds up to this day, the improved from BioShock 1 gameplay mechanics, the incredible sound design, overall ambiance, characters, overall narrative, but most importantly the most incredible AI companion that I've played alongside to this very day! Elisabeth interacted with the environment in so many surprising ways, always had something to say about what we were doing, helps you out in firefights, opens portals for you, keeps you supplied, points out when there is loot around or optional routes to go, just the absolute most useful cool companion around! Of course all of those mechanical interactions lead you to growing attached to the character, and when you do, the game throws twist after twist your way as the game comes to a close, leaving you totally mind blown.
If I had to nit pick, I'd critique the skyline system. I wish there were more of them and there was more verticality when riding them, and finally I wish they played more into combat. Enemies rarely rode them and it's really hard if not impossible to interact with the enemies when they're zipping around. Another thing that kinda weirded me out was the low cut boobie dress with a corset that Elisabeth changes into, feels like a relic of the time. I get that it symbolizes her growing up, but idk she's a young girl, it's kinda icky. Additionally, in the second half of the game, I ran into a similar issue I had with the first game, where I kept finding new vigors, yet I was so used to the first few you get I didn't really find the later ones fun or worthy of use. Bucking Bronco carried me through the entire game, it's just so OP! Finally, I wish I got to face off with songbird, even if it was in some staged, scripted sort of boss fight, in any way at all, but no you don't get to.
Overall the positives highly outweigh the negatives and all these years later I still love this game, gg Ken Levine!
