3/5 ★ – Ataliano's review of A Way Out.
I tried A Way Out thanks to EA + Game Pass partnership. Since I saw the game first I always had the intention to play it eventually and give it a try, but never happened until now, when I was able to play with a friend, to enjoy the full experience in co-op.
The story is good, not excellent but better than many other games out there with nice twists and nice characters. I missed more gameplay inside the prison where I saw many opportunities for the co-op, but escaping the prison takes only half of the game (even less) as there's not much strategy to follow nor options but simply following the story-line.
The gameplay is fine, but not outstanding. I found some actions a bit simplistic or not taking full advantage of the split screen. In some areas you're forced to collaborate, but instead of having your friend telling you what to do based on their view, you will only have to look at the split screen to see what they're doing or when you can move forward.
There's also many scripted action scenes which reduce the feeling you're really driving the game.
However, despite all these things and considering it comes from a small studio, it's an enjoyable game, with many details (and mini-games), easy to play and enjoy in co-op, with a nice story and execution.
