Backlog Reviews: Mortal Kombat 11 Bite-sized Review My initial impression of MK11 was yet another fighter with an appealing graphical showcase full of brutal fatalities. What I ended up getting was that, but so much more. If you have slept on Mortal Kombat the last couple installments, this is where you jump back in.  MK11 brings what we all love combined with past tropes as well as new ones. However, it also brings a compelling narrative, fantastic moment to moment performances, and combines it all with a time-traveling story that actually works narratively.  The gameplay is more than serviceable just like last installments. You follow rotating characters pinned in 1v1s through the plot with a few choices thrown in. You progress naturally once you are victorious.  If you would have told me that MK deserved a nod for best narrative in 2019 I would have laughed, but an argument is warranted at the very least. The only real issue I have with the game is its length. Not only is the main plot very short, but some moments seem to be cut short too. Self-contained character moments shine for MK11, but some needed a bit more screen time to fully blossom.  A smaller roster coupled with a shorter campaign maybe shortens the replayability when compared to last installments, but an impressive looking Krypt mode could steal your time. The beauty in the graphics highlights the art style, but it's nothing new. The music stood out in moments but is ultimately overshadowed.  Overall, the execution of the plot carries you through. It's a good fighter with a compelling narrative and that in itself warranted my purchase.  👍
