4.5/5 ★ – AzulAzuril's review of Pokémon HeartGold.
I think HeartGold is easily one of the best games in the series and it’s probably the best remake in the franchise. The graphical and music updates are so good, and the game does a phenomenal job by including all of the content from Pokémon Crystal in the game. HeartGold also does a great job by including even more new content, with new additions like the Johto Safari Zone, the Pokeathalon (which is such a fun use of the DS!) and the Gen IV Battle Frontier, there’s simply so much to do in these games. Walking Pokémon is a fun little interaction to have too, and I don’t know if the franchise has ever done this feature as good again later. Plus, even though I knew it was in the games, the post-game being set in Kanto is such a treat and makes the replay value of these games immense. Probably the only major flaw with HeartGold is that it sticks to the weird level curve and Pokémon distribution that plagued the original Gen II games, but outside of those (admittedly large) problems, these are phenomenal entries in the Pokémon series.
