3.5/5 ★ – AzulAzuril's review of Poptropica.
Ok for a free game this had a surprising amount of content in its heyday. Me and my friends used to make Poptropica accounts during the school day and play when we had free time in computer classes. The basic premise of this game is actually really great- exploring different islands and quest lines through point and click style adventures is a really neat concept, and so many of these are really fun. I loved the Time Travel Island, Mythology Island, Reality TV Island, and Skullduggery Island the most and I spent lots of hours exploring this fun world! It’s too bad that the game fell off after a point- it was clear that they were trying to monetize the experience, so they added paid memberships, islands/plotlines that could only be attained with said membership, and a store that had exclusive items for sale. I never paid for these features, so as the game expanded I never did some of this content. I also found that the game had some pretty poor controls, since you only held down an arrow to move, making some platforming sections more frustrating. The game would also occasionally have really long load times or even freeze in certain areas. It’s too bad Poptropica is no longer accessible though, because this was definitely an iconic adventure game for children to play on the internet.
