4.5/5 ★ – AzulAzuril's review of Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
The original Spyro series is a series that I have so much nostalgia for. I was incredibly excited for a remake of the original trilogy, and it did not disappoint. Spyro Reignited personally reignited my love for this franchise and it made me appreciate these platformers so much more.
For the most part, the gameplay is nearly identical to what I remember. For better or worse, this includes sections of the game that were infuriatingly difficult in the original- this remake only tries to improve the game graphically, but not from a gameplay perspective.
Graphically, the game looks phenomenal. There are new designs for lots of characters, the lighting in the game is gorgeous, and the textures for the environment are so colorful. Exploring these environments is a treat. The game does have a significant amount of motion blur, so much so that it hurts my eyes sometimes. For audio, the game has a unique “dynamic” soundtrack that changes to your actions, but you can still listen to the original soundtrack by changing the settings.
My personal favorite of the original trilogy is Spyro 3. I think the variety of activities, characters, and environments makes it so much fun to explore. Spyro 1 is my next favorite, as I love the platforming and exploration present in it. Spyro 2 is my least favorite of the originals, but only because it’s the one I played the least growing up.
Overall, this is a delightful trilogy. If you’ve never played Spyro but you’re a fan of 90’s style 3D platformers, you definitely should give this a shot!
