2.5/5 ★ – AzulAzuril's review of Wii Music.
I appreciate that Nintendo tried to do something unique and recreate Wii Sports in a different way, but Wii Music is simply nowhere near as good. Instead of intuitive motion controls, you press buttons or make motions in time with notes on the screen. There’s nothing to control pitch whatsoever- the only thing that determines pitch is how close to the timing you are, making this more of a rhythm game than an actual music game. There are a large variety of instruments in the game, but across all of them, gameplay is nearly identical, making for a rather boring experience that’s far less interesting and intuitive than Wii Sports. The main jam mode is fun for a few times, but grows old relatively quickly. There are a couple of interesting minigames that are some fun. There’s a Maestro minigame where you conduct an orchestra which is kinda neat and a handbell mode where you swing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk like bells which is cool, but there’s a limited song selection for each. The song selection is generally poor with only a few actual songs, only a few Nintendo songs, and then a lot of public domain music that’s less appealing. I also just want to comment that the game uses “Tutes” instead of Miis which are weird Muppet like characters and they’re far less charming than the Miis are. Overall, this is just a much less satisfying experience than other “Wii” era titles.
