2/5 ★ – Batman_Beware's review of Saints Row.
Story-
Saints Row (2022) features a brand new cast of characters and with a new cast comes a new boss. The core character traits of the new boss aren’t that different from the original especially in SR3 and 4. The rest of the main cast however is pretty weak and doesn’t hold a candle to any of the previous members even characters like Matt and Keith David in SR4 (yes Keith David). The whole plot about student loans never comes up after the first cutscene it’s brought up in. The gangs in the game aren’t very memorable and there’s just not enough development for the leaders’ demise to hold any weight. The dialogue is mediocre at best and often cringe. Also the plot twist at the end was so predictable I saw it coming a mile away.
Gameplay-
If you forget the game has glitches at literally every turn the gameplay is fine but gets repetitive quickly. The same mission time and time again. The shooting mechanics feel like they came out of the 360 era. The driving is not that great either, drifting is worse in this game than the original 2006 game (I went back to play it after this to see if I was just bad at the driving or if it was the mechanics and it was the latter).
Music-
The music in this game is nothing like the old entries. Hardly any songs that you’d know and after a while I just turned on my Spotify playlist and turned the in game music off. There’s a couple good ones but enough to be considered a strength for this game.
Verdict-
Overall this game is a buggy mess with little going for it. If you like open world games or just games that give you a bunch of tasks to check off you might like this when it goes on sale.
