3.5/5 ★ – Bengerman10's review of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!.

DKC3 has a sort of notorious reputation for being the worst game in the trilogy, perhaps the worst game in the entire series. Whether it was my expectations being set too low or having removed myself from the masterpiece level of work from DKC2 for five+ years, I resolutely disagree with the reputation. I'd argue that DKC3 feels a lot like other black sheep in the gaming world (Dark Souls II, Zelda II, Simon's Quest, etc) where it tries a lot of new stuff, and for the most part, I think it really works. Almost every level feels completely different, each with a fresh twist on challenging platforming. Both of the playable characters have interesting features (Kiddy being heavy enough to flatten tougher enemies, Dixie being more agile) and being able to chuck each of them in different directions is fun too. It's a game that I wish had gotten a little more time in the oven, but it really was a lot of fun. The DKC series is still my favorite 2D platforming franchise, and DKC3 lived up to that for me.
