4.5/5 ★ – BetterCallAcid's review of Max Payne 3.

Max Payne 3 is among the finest shooters of all time. The gunplay is very refined and it's combat mechanics are very satisfying. The maneuvers you can pull up with the shootdodge feature makes the game more fun. The game is very difficult, as I've died a lot of times in my first playthrough but the feeling of completing a mission in this game after dying a lot is immensely satisfying, although in some parts, it's just straight up annoying. Animations of this game simultaneously break and make this game. On one hand, they're very smooth, although on the expense of losing some control. Like I died at one point because I laid on prone and it took 3 seconds to get up and by that point I was at last stand. The set pieces that this game has, are among the best in gaming. Chapter 4, 11, 12 and the penultimate chapter are among the greatest missions in gaming. I did wish that this game had more Hoboken missions as I was kind of mixed on the Brazil setting. I'd probably have preferred the original Russian setting. The story, in my opinion, is fine. However, James McCaffrey carries Max Payne. His acting is among the finest of game performances. Overall, it's an underrated gem by Rockstar Games.
