4.5/5 ★ – BjornHelheim's review of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an amazing game and, IMO, a pretty strong GOTY 2025 contender.
The game takes place in Bohemia (nowadays Czhequia) and is a direct sequel of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1. It follows the story of Henry and his companions, in a journey of revenge and growth.
KDC2, just like the first game, is a brutal medieval open-world and it focuses a lot on realism in many aspects of its gameplay. And although these mechanics may look difficult to deal with at first, if you have played the first game, then you know what to expect and these shouldn't be much of a problem. If you can get past the initial frustration of getting used to the game's mechanics, it delivers a great game experience that humiliates some AAA games.
The main story is very good and the characters that support it are amazing as well; every character has their own motivations and it feels like their personalities justify their behaviour. The voice acting is amazing in this game and it really brings life to these characters (although I wish there were more generic NPC voices). The quests in the main story are very unique and each of them feel like their own unique little story. In the last quarter of the game, the quests get really complex and the story is simply amazing. Most side quests revolve around the same gameplay loop (go somewhere and fetch x item or kill x person) but every last one of them has a very unique story to justify these actions. Some side quests are even better than a few of the main quest, as they offer something that not even main quests have. Every romance option is very fun and click well with the main character, although I feel like they didn't all share the same amount of screen time.
Ultimately, what made me sadder about this game wasn't the difficulty or the insanely detailed medieval open-world simulator, but the fact that the game still has a considerable amount of bugs (PC) even after a few months, and I even go as far to say that some of them were introduced after the game's release.
In the end, this doesn't subtract too much from the great experience that this game is and I definitely recommend everyone to play this.
