5/5 ★ – Blank227's review of Killer7.
Games like Killer 7 remind me why I'm so interested in this medium in the first place. The kind of stylish vision that this game has is something you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere, as it probably wouldn't work in those other forms of media.
In a pure gameplay-sense, there really isn't anything like it as far as I'm aware. The control scheme is really unconventional, yet it also makes a lot of sense. Since you're always on a railtrack so to speak, the view your given to the game is limited to what angles the road will allow.
The combat is designed in a fairly clever way, which it kinda had to be as it uses FPS mechanics in a game designed for gamecube controllers. The game has lock on, but the most effective way to defeat an enemy is to hit their weak spot. This is easier when the enemy is neither too far away or too close, as they'll be harder to hit in the former case, while in the latter you're probably panicking cause they're gonna explode on you. This gameplay loop keeps being entertaining during the whole playthrough, and the game is pretty challenging on the harder difficulty.
What ties this together is the stylish, finely aged visuals, the confusing, dreamlike narrative and a great soundtrack. A game like this really requires you to do multiple playthroughs to get a better understanding of what's going on, and I really like that.
A game with as strong of a vision as this one can only be regarded as a masterpiece.
