2/5 ★ – BlooMoon's review of Pokémon Scarlet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero - Part 2: The Indigo Disk.

Dylan's Games Finished 2025 5. Pokemon Scarlet: The Indigo Disk (Switch) Play Time: 6 hours Start Date: Late 2024 Finish Date: 2/9/2025 Good DLC pack, however I think I spent so long playing the base game that I had lost pretty much all interest in exploring the new additions here. What I did explore of the terrarium for the main story was very cool, especially the cave systems with the Joltik webs. However, all that cool exploration comes with the big asterisk that the base game has: it looks and runs unacceptably bad. The Blueberry Academy Elite Four are suitably difficult fights that are all double battles to shake things up. I enjoyed that Kieran's champion match was difficult and an amazing example of how hard he had trained and improved himself. Going back to Area Zero was cool, but I expected a little bit more extra to find there. *SPOILERS* I think that the story direction taken in the Teal Mask is really interesting. Kieran's relationship with the player is super intriguing and much more in line with how a real person would react to the prodigy that is every Pokemon protagonist. I enjoy seeing how Kieran changed in this part 2, however I don't think this ending stuck the landing. The entire arc has been about, what if someone else wanted to be the protagonist instead? They put in the work, they became the very best, why shouldn’t they get to be the champion and catch the legendary? And I think he’s right. Honestly, they should have let him keep Terapagos. The lasting impact of something like this would’ve gone a long way to have this story stand out and give more weight to the moment he throws the master ball. Instead they went the route of “he needs to learn to play nice >:(“ and deny him the legendary again. I understand mechanically why they did this, but story wise it’s a cheap resolution that takes a lot of punch out of the character. I also wish Carmine had a bit of a bigger role, but instead of a part 2 to her story, she feels like a static character here. Overall, I played this pretty much just for the story resolution to the Teal Mask. I'm glad to have a resolution, but I'm also glad it's over. All I can say is I'm glad Pokemon took a year off and I hope Legends Z-A and beyond that, Gen 10 are more polished products while still continuing to take big swings with both gameplay and story.
