4.5/5 ★ – Boulderman24's review of Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition.

A game that got overshadowed by being released days before Breath Of The Wild, but deserves way more recognition than it ended up getting. This has one of the most fascinating, well thought out, provocative stories of any game I’ve played. It’s a way more sophisticated imagining of a post apocalyptic world than most I’ve heard of. There are some excellent characters, the standout being Sylens, excellent character building and voice acting. These graphics are gorgeous, right on par with the best available on PS4. Reminds me a little of the Witcher 3 visually. This game features awesome robot animal-like creatures that chase after you in the open world. They have great animations and are very intimidating. The crafting is very user friendly in this game. I got a lot of practice shooting arrows while playing this. One area that isn’t as much of a strength for me here is the way Aloy sometimes interacts with the environment. Ledges that are clearly marked can be grabbed on to, but a lot of places where there is a low ledge that she ought to be able to climb up she is unable. It breaks the immersion a little with the limitation of what she is able to climb on. The game isn’t chock full of novel gameplay mechanics, there is mostly just the fighting monsters and a few puzzles in the underground. It’d be nice to have a horse-like creature readily available, instead of having to tame one repeatedly. Perhaps there is a way I’m unaware of. This game is only slightly below the top tier of open world games. It’s fun and beautiful, and worth a playthrough for the amazing story alone.
