5/5 ★ – bryansbane's review of Super Mario 64.
When I was little most of my friends were getting Nintendo 64’s, but we were a PlayStation family. I was envious of Super Mario 64 because there was nothing like it on PlayStation, so one of my earliest trade-ins at the local game store was a bunch of stuff towards a used N64 and a copy of Super Mario 64. It had this charm I found irresistible.
I was pretty obsessed with the castle and the different portraits you entered, all of it excited me in a way no other games had at the time. I can distinctly remember being a dumb kid and throwing a “birthday party” for Mario in real life with my brother and cousin out of pure love for the game.
It’s hard to ever go to long without jumping back in to this classic. The gameplay and 3D world was just so far ahead of the pack that if you were there to experience it back in the day, the specialness hasn’t seemed to wear off at all. It’s impressive to think about just how many people speed run this game and stream it on Twitch nearly 30 years later. You can’t not appreciate what Super Mario 64 did for the evolution of gaming and the mark it’s left on the hearts of so many who enjoy this hobby. Let’s a go!
