5/5 ★ – Bunkos's review of Batman: Arkham City.

Such an essential piece of Batman media. The combat system is one of the best I’ve ever seen and despite its simplicity, it’s extremely engaging. The amount of fun you have is directly decided by how much cool stuff you’re willing to do. Even if you don’t put the time in though, it’s still really satisfying. The stealth is also pretty simple, but try out some of the riddler challenges and you’ll realize just how many options you have. That’s really how I’d describe most of the game. It’s simple and has some obvious beat-em-up roots, but it also has the complexity to reward dedicated players. Along with this, it has a pretty good story. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s paced well enough too keep you invested. Somehow they make getting backstabbed by Mr.Freeze after an intense dream battle with Raj Al Ghul because of a Joker-Virus actually make sense. I’ve never played Arkham Asylum, but I have played Arkham Knight. I’ll just say it how it is, I don’t think it’s as good as City. It looks cool, but it doesn’t feel cool. Fear takedowns are incredibly stupid, and the new enemy variety doesn’t matter because they give you new free takedowns. Along with that, they added the bat mobile which was honestly the worst idea ever. If I’m being honest, I don’t get why people requested it. Basically, what I’m getting at, is Arkham City is good. Really good. And I mean, I don’t think very many superhero games will ever top it. Not even some of the new Spider-Man games we’re getting. Arkham City just works in every way, and it really hits the spot for me.
