3/5 ★ – Caljb03's review of Blair Witch.
Overall Blair Witch was an okay time that had enough enjoyable moments to keep me playing.
The game manages to make you feel like you're lost in the woods, but I found that to be a detriment more than a positive. I enjoy having to figure out what I have to do next in games, but here I found myself frustrated more than in most games.
I played this on the Series X and it still seemed to have some performance issues, just some stutters here and there and some frame drops for some time. It was a noticeable issue but it wasn't enough to stop me playing.
This game does nail tension. Playing this in a dark room with surround sound headphones made it terrifying at times due to the sound design and the atmosphere created. The darkness of the forest ahead of you and the breaking of twigs around you. I always felt uneasy which is great.
There are also some well designed set pieces here, each location feels different whether it's a dream sequence or an area in the woods. I usually felt like I was experiencing new areas that I hadn't been to before. Usually these might suffer from the level design I mentioned before but they definitely helped add to the great atmosphere.
With some issues like its performance and it's level design, Blair Witch may be a slow trog to an ending. But with some excellent atmosphere design and interesting set pieces, to others it may be an average yet enjoyable experience. I'd reccomend giving it a shot if you have game pass and deciding for yourself.
