4/5 ★ – Calsterman's review of Resident Evil: Village.
Resident Evil Village was a blast to play and really showcased just how great Capcom have been with this franchise since Resident Evil 6 showed that the franchise had suffered quite a bit.
Village picks up 3 years after the events of Biohazard as Ethan Winters looks to settle down with his family before everything goes to hell rather quickly. Following a series of events that leads him to an old, rundown and extremely dangerous village Ethan begins the search for his baby daughter and discovers several nasty baddies in his way.
Story wise I will leave it there, narrative is for sure one of the game's strengths and is worth the price of admission alone. The game deviates from the usual zombie fare of the franchise and once again hones in on parasites and to a far greater extent, werewolves.
The pacing of the game could have been better. The much memed Lady Dimistrcu and her section of the game comes far too early and probably should have been saved as the 2nd or 3rd major portion of the game as it is easily the most meaty and enjoyable. The FPS mechanics are good if not great, but little has evolved between RE7 and 8.
The finale of Village opens the door to some really interesting things to be done in RE9 which I hope arrives sooner rather than later.
