3/5 ★ – Chaos_Controller's review of Marvel's Avengers.
There is some base level enjoyment to be had here, but it doesn't go much deeper than that.
Stories have interesting ideas, but don't flesh them out, and it's way too focused on AIM, with a severe lack of villains. Whole game has a total of 5 known villains, not counting Maestro who's just Hulk but bad. Characters also lack depth and can be quite cliche. Standout performance is Christopher Judge as T'Challa. Most of the other heroes are just...fine.
Combat is well designed, and fun, with a good amount of combos, engaging progression, and lots of great animation, but the enemy design is often irritating, and sound design can be lacking.
The game also lacks visual flair. Wakanda is really the only place that looks visually pleasing. Every other area looks bland and empty and a lot of the areas are just AIM bases.
Costumes in the game are a mixed bag. The MCU suits are all very well done (though they're missing some), and there's plenty of good original and comic inspired designs. But there's also lots of bad suits, and many ugly color swaps.
Overall, I had a fine enough time to still play through all the campaigns, so that counts for something.
That said, I am playing it after all the cosmetics were made free. If I was reviewing when that awful store was still active, this would be a 2/5.
