2/5 ★ – ChucklesBiscotti's review of Star Wars: Squadrons.

Squadrons fails the Hoth Test for me in that it doesn't feel as cool as the Battle of Hoth in Shadows of the Empire did back in '96, and I wouldn't remember where I played this the first time like I did with Rogue Squadron on either the N64 (my friend Sam's basement!) or Gamecube (the demo booth at the mall!). Perhaps in VR it would wow me, or if I had played the multiplayer it would have been a good time, but it's just a functional but mostly boring space fighter with a mostly uninteresting dual-narrative story. Some of the space battles are impressive enough, but even on max settings, I'm just not floored by the graphics, and it feels like the point of this game is to blow you away with the speed and feel of being in a fighter, and it just doesn't do that for me -- outside of A+ audio. I think it's missing some change of scenery as space battles ultimately end up looking and feeling the same to me. It's a game that could use more color and more variety of planets rather than just being in space the entire time. It doesn't overstay its welcome as I finished out the main story in a little over 6 hours, and that was more than enough, but I can't say I'll ever think much about this one again.
