4/5 ★ – Clooper's review of Mario Kart World.

If I could summarize this entire review, it would be that this game has so much potential to be phenomenal. This game suffers from a lot of werid design choices and a lack of options for the player that can hopefully be ironed out in future content updates and support. Still, after waiting 10+ years for a new mario kart I feel like they shouldn't be here to begin with. With lack of online options and no dedicated classic mario kart 3 lap mode with no straightaways it really keeps me from grinding out this game and experiencing more of it. I really don't enjoy the straightaways when I want to play standard mario kart. They are extremely fun in knockout tour so I don't believe they should have never been in the game but they're boring when I want to do a standard 3 lap game of mario kart and master the tracks. More online options would be nice when playing with friends and character unlocks with the kamack item is stupid (also some characters like Pauline and Donkey Kong getting only one costume is crazy to me). With those compliments out of the way the rest of the game is just incredible and some of the most fun ive had with mario kart. The new mechanics and just incredible and really mastering a course makes me never want to go back to MK8D. There are so many little details and shortcuts on every track and the selection overall is very soild. Not every course is a winner and some visually don't feel as distinct as other courses in the series but it has some really high highs. The graphics of the game don't seem like a generational jump but the more time has gone on the more I love how this game looks with its buttery smooth frame rate and more animated characters. There are so many visual details that do a lot of heavy lifting and the big scope of the game is a great showcase for the switch 2 hardware. I understand the complaints for the free roam mode being empty and boring but I feel like I like it more than most. I see it as something to do when waiting for a match for a game online and it lets me experience more game while waiting kind of what they did with splatoon 3s lobby. It would be nice if their was more incentive to do more in the world but the challenges are fun and I'm glad they are doing new things for the series. This games soundtrack is just spectacular. Not even counting remixes, the new tracks music go so fucking hard, we got some certified hood classics. The remixes throughout marios history makes this game price worth it alone, i love how many games they represented with different genres of music and this is really the one time we're I prefer a lot of the remixes over the originals. Im still discovering new songs everyday and I have nothing but good things to say on the soundtrack. I've been waiting a month to really give my thoughts to really gather my thoughts. I love that they took some risk with the game and tried something new, it would have been really easy to just make a new game with the same philosophy as the old one but they really needed to do this after all the years we had with 8 deluxe. They really need to keep the content updates coming and give this game a lot of support. A lot of stuff can be ironed out and Im interested to see how this game looks a few years from now. Also please add diddy kong 🙏
