0.5/5 ★ – Clooper's review of Paper Mario: Sticker Star.
This game pissed me off in ways I didn't expect going in. I loved the Paper Mario games before playing this, and I knew this game was really hated. I wanted to come in with an open mind, but this game fails as not just what it wants to be, but game design in general. People think we hate this game because it isn't like the previous games, but it goes deeper than that. The biggest crime of this game is just how soulless and generic everything feels. There's no personality, no characters, and nothing feels connected to each other thanks to the level select format. The gameplay is tedious with tons of backtracking and stuff that are arbitrary things that make this game very hard to play without a walk through. When I couldn't find a solution to my problem and looked for an answer online, I always thought "now how would I know to do that?"It doesn't feel fair and just feels like they wanted to use a stupid sticker gimmick. This game ruined all discussion about the paper mario series and hurt future titles from reaching to higher heights. The music is good, but that doesn't save it from being one of my least favorite games ever.
