4/5 ★ – ColeTrain's review of Rain on Your Parade.
This game is quite good I found it was better than I was expecting it be.The story starts with a boy who is staying at his Grandpa's and is getting ready for bed. He then asks his Grandpa to tell him a story before he goes to sleep. The Granpa then has an idea of a story to tell. The story of Cloudy the Cloud who decides to make a journey to Seattle and to be a nuisance to people along the way. Alright gameplay time now Rain on Your Parade is somewhat similar to Untitled Goose Game since you have a list of objectives you have to complete within a level before you are able to beat it. For example there's a level that takes place in an old west town and one of the objectives is to stop two cowboys from having a duel in the middle of town so you have to hit them with lightning if I remember correctly in order to check off that objective.Speaking of lightning I think I'll talk about the abilities that Cloudy has at his disposal. So intially you have your raining ability which obviously can be used for making people wet ooh what a surprise but eventually you'll unlock more abilities as you progress like snow which allows you to make things slippery and send cars hopelessly careening through the streets as the drivers fight for control of their vehicles in vain and lightning which can be used to scare people as well as light things like paper and wood on fire.To rain on people or other things you need to position Cloudy on top of them then press the A button you also have meter on the side of the screen which tells you how much rain Cloudy has left before he's empty and will need to refill himself in order to do this you'll need to move over a water source which is indicated by small bubbles floating up from its surface. As far as controls go you can shoot lightning by pressing the B button, Snowing by pressing the Y button and movement is done with the left stick. You can also check objectives by pressing the back button. Now I'll talk about the good and the bad now. I really enjoyed the story while it is simplistic it's very cute. This game is also very funny with some great jokes that genuinely made me laugh while I was playing it.The game has very good level variety with no two levels that were the same. The art style is quite cute too with Cloudy being made out of cardboard and being held up by strings. The music is good with most of it being cheery and upbeat which is perfect for a game like this. There's multiple references to other games which adds a lot of charm to the overall experience. Now I'll talk about the bad to start some levels have objectives that need to be finished very quickly which is sometimes ridiculously fast and quicker than I could react to during my early attempts at some levels for example there's a level where you have to rain on people at a pool party however there's turrets around the pool (just what every party needs right?) That can take away the rain in your meter in like two or three hits and your dead oh and they also track you too by the way which makes it extra annoying to get through. Overall though I enjoyed my time with Rain on Your Parade, if you liked Untitled Goose Game you'll probably enjoy this game too.
