4/5 ★ – Cyrus's review of Return of the Obra Dinn.

The best thing a puzzle game can do for me is make me feel smart. I don't think there were many better moments like that moment I discovered how this game is supposed to work. It's the classic Einstein riddle dressed as a murder mystery in one of the coolest artstyles I've ever seen. You work your way from one puzzle to the next, getting a better picture with every scene. In the end the game keeps you in awe for what they build here. My biggest problem with it was on the language side, because some casualties were a bit too similar for my taste and what I saw from guides afterwards it's mostly a translation problem. I got something wrong in the end because I picked the wrong thing, that was very close in meaning with the actual answer but just not what the game intended me to pick here. I guess they wanted to reduce the chances of guessing, I still had to in the end, but it feels a bit annoying missing something because of that. But still: Return of the Obra Dinn is one of those special games and if you're a puzzle guy, unlike me, you will have an even greater time.
