3/5 ★ – Dani_fr's review of Eternal Strands.
Eternal Strands is a pretty cool game. I was excited to try it out because I enjoy magic-themed stories and I’m a big fan of Dragon Age. So when I learned that some of the developers behind this had worked on Dragon Age before, I was definitely curious.
I usually approach indie games—especially ones priced at a third of a typical AAA title—with an open mind, and in this case, that attitude paid off. It’s clear that the game has a smaller scope, but honestly, it does some things better than a lot of big-budget games I’ve played.
The boss fights stood out the most for me—freezing a dragon’s wing mid-battle to stop it from flying was just awesome. That said, the ending felt a bit anticlimactic. It kind of just… ended, and I wasn’t sure if it was because my character was too overpowered or if the pacing was just off.
One weak point was the lore. There are several different races in the world, but the game doesn’t explain much about them. Maybe it’s all in the codex, but I’m not the kind of player who enjoys reading pages of lore—I prefer when it’s woven into the narrative.
Overall, it’s a decent game that becomes good when you consider its price point and the size of the dev team. It’s a solid first effort, and I’m curious to see what this studio does next.
