2.5/5 ★ – DanteHR's review of Bleak Faith: Forsaken.
I tend to think that no one had very high expectations from this game, "Bleak Faith:Forsaken" is a failed soulslike delivered by "Archangel Studios", a very small and independent studio having only 3 active developers. Considering that the studio is so small, the game turned out quite disappointing. With dry and clunky combat, a very small variety of enemies and a lot of bugs, "Bleak Faith:Forsaken" reaches the stage of generic soulslike.
The game starts suddenly with a cinematic, introducing the world of "Bleak Faith:Forsaken", and then the game allows you to explore the world by advancing the story. The game tries to copy as much as possible titles from "Fromsoft", especially "Dark Souls" and "Elden Ring", even copying animations from them.
The combat in "Bleak Faith" is the category that drags it down the most. The weapons feel plastic and the melee is imprecise and unsatisfying, both for the player and for enemies. The game does not necessarily have a leveling system, but you can advance by finding different weapons, armor and supplies. Besides all the negative words, I have to add and the most disadvantageous of them, those being the bugs. Bugs upon bugs, enemies get stuck, stamina drops in a fraction of a second without any explanation, items disappear from inventory, etc.
Although the gameplay is very weak, the only thing that saves the game is the aesthetics. The omnistructure looks like a gothic punk dream, completely shaded in gray and death colors. It's a completely unique design in a "soulslike".
The sounds in the game are in poor taste and very robotic, but the game's music is quite good, considering that only one person worked on the soundtracks.
"Bleak Faith:Forsaken" really has a lot of potential, in the current stage, the game is unfinished, it has a ton of technical problems, there is no narrative story and the combat is frustrating even for a soulslike. Let's hope that the developers will solve the problems in the future, but until then, the game is only worth buying at a massive sale.
