2/5 ★ – DanteHR's review of Redfall.
Many of us knew that "Redfall" would be a disappointing game for everyone, but instead, we put our trust in "Arkane Austin" and I can say that it was the greatest failure. "Redfall" a highly anticipated Coop FPS, created by "Arkane Austin" and published by "Bethesda". Given that "Redfall" is the biggest disappointment of the studio, it is a game
done in jest if I can call it like that.
The new IP from "Arkane Austin", a quite hyped game, could not deliver anything at all to a finished stage. The game starts very suddenly, with a filler cutscene, which you cannot understand, and then "Redfall" allows us to enter the game (in the unforgettable adventure). The game allows you to choose the character you want from the menu , to start your playtrough. You also start on a "sunken" ship not knowing what's going on and not having any good indications of what to do. After you manage to escape from the ship, the game allows you to explore the world of "Redfall" or to continue your story.
When it comes to combat, "Redfall" delivers absolutely nothing. A very weak gunplay despite the fact that they boasted that the game would have the "best gunplay" of all their IPs. The only good thing about gunplay is the weapons themselves, their design is pretty good, except for how clunky you can shoot with them. Also the melee combat is not present in "Redfall", that makes it even more disgusting. A relatively new thing that they introduced in the game are the characters and the abilities of the characters. In total there are 4 playable characters: "Devinder", "Jacob", "Layla" and "Remi". Each character having 3 skills, one of which is advanced. As a rule, the game should be very compatible between the characters' coop, but the game failed to deliver that either. The characters don't really work together with another. Regarding the variety of enemies, "Redfall" delivers us exactly the same shit, 3 types of enemies that you meet all over the map, with only about 2-3 more special and about 3 very boring Bosses. From my point of view, the movement of the game is the worst part of the game, besides all the visual bugs and the bugs that affect the gameplay, the movement is horrible. In fact, it's the most horrible movement I've seen in the last 5 years in an FPS.
When it comes to graphics, "Redfall" disappoints us again. The game looks really horrible, comparable to a PS3 game from over a decade ago. Bad lights, a lot of nasty effects and the creative vision has a bad taste. The environment in "Redfall" is again , very stupid and uninspired, an infested town of vampires, but the vampires are missing. The conclusion is that the maps in "Redfall" are small and boring, with very little to do. The only things that you can do are some wannabe "outposts" similar to those in "Far Cry" but not as well thought out. One good thing I can add here is the sky in certain parts of the game.
As far as the sounds are concerned, "Redfall" delivers absolutely nothing interesting. The sounds of firearms are just okay on their best day. Music, too. The musical part seems to be trying to be on that superb "spooky" theme, but instead they made it more goofy and annoying.
The story of "Redfall" is so bad that it is comparable to that of "Atomic Heart". The game takes place in the picturesque island town of Redfall, Massachusetts. After an experiment bio company Aevum's "failed" , they turned into vampires and later took over the city. Your goal is to exterminate all vampires and return the world to normal, blah blah, something very basic. In the game, the story is not explained well at all and a lot of boring characters are shoved down your throat.
We've reached the climax of this whole mess. I must say with all my heart that "Redfall" is the weakest AAA game of this year at the moment. I can't recommend anyone to buy it, but instead it's free on gamepass, for anyone who has gamepass. The game itself had good ideas, the concept was a very good one, but "Arkane" were stressed by time and had to deliver it to us in an unfinished stage. Although the game runs in only 30 FPS on consoles, it is not well optimized on PC either , with AMD FSR 2.1, the game does not allow you to have a smooth playthrough.
