3/5 ★ – DanteHR's review of Strayed Lights.
Not everyone had high expectations for this game, "Strayed Lights" is a very colorful Action-Adventure, made and published by "Embers Studio". A small, independent studio with a lot of potential, having only about 10 developers in total. Considering that it is an "indie" game, no one could expect a "behemoth" game, at most only a good experience that we will not forget about soon. But... unfortunately, it was exactly the opposite.
"Strayed Lights" starts suddenly, without any story cutscene. The game gives you a very tiring tutorial from the first, and after those 30 boring minutes you spent in the tutorial , the game shows you the fascinating world of "Strayed Lights", a very colorful world, but with a ton of other flaws.
When it comes to gameplay, the game is a bit of a drag, being an Action-Adventure, the combat should have come first, but the developers thought to focus more on artstyle and the world itself. The combat is very clunky and horrible, the main part of the combat is the parry that you learn in the tutorial. A timed parry based on many elements. To destroy the enemy in front of you, the game only allows you to parry until you have the "gauge" full, and then unleash a powerful attack to destroy the enemy. It's one of the worst combat directions I've seen lately. The variety of enemies is not vast at all, most of them have a good design, but they are not unique.
We have reached the best part of the game, the graphics and the artstyle, although the gameplay is very weak, the artstyle is quite unique, but also very pleasant. Very similar to the one from "Omno" and "Journey", two extraordinarily good indies. The world is very colorful, and the developers have chosen the right colors for this kind of game, the game gives you a special vibe as if you are living moments in a distant magical land, full of celestial creatures. Of course, the game also looks very good visually, very good graphic effects and the details of the environment are solid.
As for the music, "Strayed Lights" doesn't disappoint us as much as the combat. The music itself is relaxing, with few "Tribal" style OSTs. sounds of the game are mediocre on their best day.
f you are looking for a unique experience with a superb visual world and if the combat is not your strong point, then "Strayed Lights" is a must-play. Without too many visual problems or bugs that affect the gameplay, after all "Strayed Lights" is a decent game for some people and bad for others.
