4.5/5 ★ – DanteHR's review of The Mageseeker.

The first really interesting game from "Riot Forge", awaited by "League Of Legends" fans as well as other metroidvania fans. "The Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story" is an indie, developed by "Digital Sun" and published by "Riot Games" which presents the story of the super loved character "Sylas". The game delivers some good aspects, but also some very poorly done. "The Mageseeker" has a very confusing beginning if you haven't played or heard the story of "Sylas" from "League Of Legends". In this isometric RPG you play as "Sylas", an escaped prisoner who wants to take revenge for what the system did to him, on the way, you meet certain characters familiar to "Sylas", who, along the way, will help you with certain goals that our warrior protagonist has. When it comes to combat, "The Mageseeker" does not disappoint at all. Super satisfying fast-paced combat with a decent variety of enemies and great abilities. The combat is similar to that of "Eldest Souls", only more complex. Having a normal attack, a heavy attack and what makes it more different from "Eldest Souls" is the spell casting. You also have a grapple hook where you throw the "immortality" chains of "Sylas" into an enemy and pull yourself towards him, and depending on the situation, you analyze how you plan the attack and slaughter them. The innovation in "The Mageseeker" is in the spells, or rather in the ability of "Sylas" to suck spells from others, just as an example: steal the spell of a fire mage and you hit an ice mage with that spell and vice versa. It's a well-done combat feature, similar to a mini-puzzle during combat. The variety of spells that "Sylas" can use is quite wide, having the special abilities/spells of the enemies, each having a spell suitable for him, but also the spells of "Sylas", which can be purchased with in-game currency from a certain NPC. I found the difficulty of the game to be quite easy, even on the highest difficulty, I was able to get through the game without a single death. The movement of the game is also very necessary in combat, having to avoid any projectile it comes out of the enemy, a plus to this is that the "dodge" has no cooldown and you can easily spam it to protect yourself. Being an RPG, the game allows you to improve your attributes using the currency of the game itself (let's assume they are gold coins). The game also introduces some companions that you can unlock during the story, the sketchy part about the companions is that they don't want to follow you through the playtrough like in any normal RPG, the so-called "Outlaws" companions allow you to use certain combos elementals if you select them at the beginning of each mission, each "outlaw" can be improved, giving them various mageseekers. The Boss Battles in the game are also super great, most of the bosses you will meet in the main story are beloved champions from "League Of Legends", the most interesting thing is that certain attacks in their pattern are exactly copy-paste from "League Of Legends" but improved. The bosses can really be called bosses after all the easy fights between "Sylas" and various random enemies. Graphically, the game looks super nice, each area being colorful and the art style being very magical. A super eye-pleasing pixel-art with many detailed areas that are worked with passion. The design of the characters is also top-notch. The "Champions" of "League Of Legends" got justice here. Their design is impeccable, every champion looks much more detailed and their effects are much more splendid compared to the favorite game of gamers with anger issues "League Of Legends". I've reached my favorite part of the whole game.. The sound is just right and if you have headphones or a system with good bass, you can hear the crunchyness of every hit of the "Blades of Chaos" - I meant Sylas' chains.. Anyway, the same thing. I finally got to the music, finally.. I can't find a word to match the music from "Mageseeker", I can only say that it is insanely good, each area having ambient music to the liking of any living being on the planet. Of course the best part being the music from the Launch trailer. The story of "The Mageseeker" is a very simple one, without too many plot twists and bluff tragedies. The game begins with "Sylas" being kept in prison for 15 years until he was visited by "Lux Crownguard", a young witch from the nobles houses who hides her magical abilities. (we all know it from "League Of Legends" already). When Sylas was supposed to be executed, "Lux" visited him one last time and "Sylas" stole her magic. With the obtained magic, "Sylas" was able to free himself from the prison and run towards the free world. Ongoing, the story gets complicated, but the main basic goal of "Sylas" remains the same, to take revenge on the leader of the mageseekers "Eldred". Along the way, "Sylas" meets all kinds of characters that will help him throughout the story. The game also gave us interactions with familiar characters from "League Of Legends", some of them being: (Lux, Garen, Morgana and Jarvan IV). The main problem in the game is the unnecessary conversations between "Sylas" and other characters, the conversations tend to become boring and off-topic all the time. "The Mageseeker" delivers what many pixel-arts could not, great gameplay and bosses, wonderful graphics and art-style. And let's not forget about that absolutely gorgeous music. For pixel-art lovers and "League Of Legends" players, "The Mageseeker" is a must-buy, especially at a price of $30. But even for newcomers to this kind of games, "The Mageseeker" is a almost perfect "first game" . 8.7/10 Made by DanteHR
