I’m a longtime fan of the series, and this scratched a serious itch for me. I got this for free through PS Plus and wasn’t expecting to sweep them all over the last two weeks, but here we are. I’m glad I waited to try these until I got a PS5 because some of the loading times I saw on YouTube were terrible, and I didn’t experience any of the bugs or issues I’ve seen other people describe.
It feels just like the originals, with a few adjustments. Several obstacles are more forgiving now than they used to be, but the trilogy is still a solid challenge if you’re going for everything. Some people don’t like the jumping, but I’ve always enjoyed it. Adding relics to the first two games was an excellent choice, as well — even if some of the courses in Crash 1 are unbearably long. Cutscenes and death animations are faithfully redesigned, but they did make Crash’s celebration dance less horny. Shame.
I wish there was an option to turn off the hints on the loading screen. I remember finding all the hidden stuff in Crash 2 as a kid, so at the very least people should be able to choose if they want that hint or not.
I think any fans of 2D platformers will love this. The third game takes some risks with level mechanics that aren’t always satisfying, but I think Crash 2 is basically a perfect game that everyone should try. Plus, the music is excellent across the board; I had these songs running through my head for days. Go play this one!
