4.5/5 ★ – DarkDrawer's review of Dead Rising.

This game is simply a classic Zombie game with some really cool side characters and a time mechanic that really keeps one on their toes if trying to rescue survivors that will struggle to move in a straight line. Frank West is a pretty compelling protagonist and his wit and sheer will is really interesting to follow. Jessica and Brad are especially interesting to follow in addition and I wish their fates could be altered somewhat. Despite that, the story is just a delight. The weapons in this game are pretty versatile even with items that might not seem to useful at a first glance. A lot of items have a good amount of durability and some combinations added with books and mixed drinks can create some more synergy. The schedule of having to follow the events with side events coming up in addition is just a formula that isn't really seen in other games to this extent. You are constantly on the move here or else survivors will die. Psychopaths also have interesting stories and can have fun weapons that'll become Frank's. Musics great, mechanics are great. The challenge of survivors is pretty interesting to overcome. What's lacking? There's definitely some parts of the plot that could've been tighter and gameplaywise, overtime is checklist simulator. It's nothing bad, but not as compelling as it could be. I think some more choice in manipulating story events would be interesting. Also the controls definitely lacked some polish. Great game. Very replayable. Wish it had multiplayer like the later ones.
