4.5/5 ★ – DarkDrawer's review of DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO.

The long awaited sequel to the Budokai Tenkaichi game is here! The game is very pretty and a lot faster than the previous games. The controls are pretty simple, but it definitely feels as if there's a lot of depth to the options you have. The first tutorial you have however doesn't really teach you everything so there's a lot of self teaching. As of now, I’ve completed the Goku campaign and it's pretty extensive. My favorite part about it is the alternative story decisions as they just give more agency to the player and have several scenarios I find fun. My only complaint to this aspect is that you will sometimes beat the cpus too quickly and will have to play the mission again and stall the CPU to progress. Some cpus are properly hard to beat and do the secondary scenario but others are pretty easy with the stronger versions. Local pvp is pretty fun, if a little too small from the screen being split. The Hyperbolic time chamber is also a stage where you will lose your opponent when you defeat one of their team which can be confusing. Overall, fun with some jank that I hope can be resolved in the future. Although I have some issues with some of the past cast not being present in the base game, there is hope that some will come later in dlc. Unlocking characters is also not as intuitive as Id hope it could be. Most characters are only unlocked via the shop which makes GT characters that don't have any campaign elements (unfortunately) bought in with cash. Despite my gripes, it's a lot of what I want in a Budokai Tenkaichi game and a little more with custom battles adding some customization to the mix! I do wish for more offline content though.
