3/5 ★ – DarkDrawer's review of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
While a fine game with a pretty sweet story to open into a greater series, the aged gameplay does leave some spectacle to be desired.
In presentation, this game looks pretty dagum good. I played on the PS4 collection, so I'm sure that helped, but it's cool regardless. Each character model is expressive and bright. It helps me like each of the main characters more.
For story, although a bit like a wild goose chase, it has its plot twists and it's cool developments. Each of the main characters get plenty of time to shine even if some contrivances lead Nathan Drake (the player character) to be doing more throughout. The villains is probably the biggest lacking piece as there's nothing to them. While a generic villain is fine every once in a while, having some history could've helped with the final battle.
The combat is alright, if dated. Guns handle well and holding onto two types of guns seem natural. The ammo allocation seems almost resident evil in nature but combat in a group means death and ammo can be gained pretty easy in a pinch. For the sequels, I hope the games either bring on the spectacle of fights or give Nate some more fire power as mowing down waves of enemies gets old when you do it time after time.
Traversal is so lacking in a cool factor. It's pretty gamey in how it solves some puzzles, but it adds some adventure to the mix. I'd hope for better spectacles and some puzzles that aren't untradable personally.
Fun start to a franchise even if my grievances with the game exist
