4/5 ★ – DarrensTrashBag's review of Borderlands 3.

This game is a massive improvement when it comes to gameplay, specifically the movement and the combat. The performances are fleshed out and feel real. The environments and score are top notch. Where this game takes a nosedive into a trough of shit is with the writing, it is embarrassing. I said that the performances are fleshed out but the characters aren't. Tannis just makes stale jokes and explains them, Claptrap just gets in the way, Maya tries to have an arc but then gets killed. Ava wasn't so bad for like 30 mins, but then she became the poster child of what not to do when making a character. The side quests aren't really all that great, BL2 had a large variety when it comes to the objective and jokes of a quest. BL3's quests consist of going to a place, killing an enemy to get an item, then the quest giver tells you that wasn't the item you need so you need to go to the opposite side of the map to get another item. This is 70% of the quests in this game. I will say that the DLC increased the writing quality tenfold. My rankings of the dlc from worst to best are: Bounty of Blood (lots of wasted potential), Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, and Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright and Hammerlock. This game is rated higher than one solely based on the combat. That is it, play the game but don't really pay attention to the atrocious writing. 81/100
