4/5 ★ – DarrensTrashBag's review of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.

Danganronpa is a very weird series where the characters keep me interested in the story. The writing is awful in some places and sometimes contradicts itself. Like when everyone keeps on mentioning Alter Ego while in a room with a camera. Makoto is so idiotic that it makes him the worst character in the whole game. A lot of questions given within the trials answers themselves, giving barely any challenge. However, there are moments where I was shocked at the results of a puzzle. The soundtrack is pretty unique and good and matches with the aesthetically pleasing visual style. Thoughts on each chapter (SPOILERS): Chapter 1: I hate that it was easy to figure out who the killer is. *Junko* dying made no since since Monokuma showed everyone why they should not attack him. The only thing that was surprising during this whole case was that Sayaka instigated the attack and planned on framing Makoto. Chapter 2: my second favorite. I really love the contrast between Chihiro, who is weak, trying to become stronger, and Mondo, who is strong, killed Chihiro because he was weak. The whole thing being an accident coupled with Byakuya messing with the crime scene was very good mystery-wise. The reveal that Chihiro was a boy and Mondo trying to keep that a secret despite killing him was oddly wholesome. My least favorite part was the Genocide Jill stuff, she can be a little too much. Chapter 3: My least favorite. Celeste is totally out of character for this entire chapter, making her the obvious culprit. The conflict between alter ego, hifumi, and taka was terribly written and eye-rolling. The whole murder plan was just idiotic and obvious. Framing one person so much obviously makes it seemed like they were framed. Celeste's motive makes sense but I still think that it was lazy. Hina should not be stupid enough to take the bait. I do believe that this is the worst chapter in the series. Chapter 4: My favorite. I think that Sakura's death, motive, and note were fantastically written. I loved that everyone took part in "killing" her. This is where I really started to like Hina because what she did makes sense and makes her seem less of an idiot. The only thing that I think should have changed was the fact that Monokuma wrote a fake suicide note. It would make perfect sense if Hina assumed that she killed herself because of everyone fighting without the need of a fake suicide note. Chapter 5: There is not much to solve, instead it is a back and forth of clearing your name and accusing Kyoko. Chapter 6 makes this chapter a little better knowing the reason and method. The ending of this chapter is pretty good. Chapter 6: Although the twin solution was cliched, I still thought that Junko being the mastermind and how she orchestrated the murder was very well done. The reveal that everyone lost their memories and the world was basically ruined was not that big of a twist, however I do not mind how they went with it. I just wish they gave more info about how the tragedy actually happened rather than having an anime tell us. Overall I really enjoyed the characters, cliched as they are, and their interactions with the other cast. My favorites are Sakura, Chihiro, Mondo, Byakuya, and Hina. My least favorite character was probably either Leon or Hifumi. 78/100.
