2/5 ★ – DarrensTrashBag's review of Hitman: Codename 47.

It was sorta nice being able to see how the Hitman series started. However, actually going through with playing it was borderline torture. The difficulty is absolutely absurd with enemies recognizing you for no reason, the player having no health, and NES-like unfun puzzles. The only mission that I liked was Budapest. The game allows for no creativity when it comes to these contracts. You either do it the way the game wants you to (which usually doesn't make a lot of sense) or you just rush in guns blazing until you get lucky. The maps are horribly designed, Columbia specifically. The controls are very wonky but I eventually got used to it. The game not having a save state mechanic makes dying 20x worse since you have to do the 10 min scripted sequence all over again. Hong Kong was my second favorite but it had too many guards and requiring the player to exit via the boat was stupid. Colombia, as I said, was terribly designed. Starting the player on the opposite side of the entrance to the base was unnecessary. Budapest was my favorite because it felt like an actual Hitman map. Rotterdam's only cool part was having the train ram into the fence. The only good things about this game were the soundtrack, the funny voice lines, Budapest, and those moments where you actually hit your shots on enemies. Otherwise this wasn't a pleasant experience. 43/100
