4.5/5 ★ – DarrensTrashBag's review of Split Fiction.
Split Fiction, like Josef Fares' other games, has an insanely immense amount of different gameplay styles and ideas that the whole game feels like playing twenty smaller games. I think that the creativity behind each of the levels and mechanics is off the charts. Lots of small details and secrets around these levels. Where the game falls behind is with it's writing. It isn't horrendous, it's just a bit bland given the fact that the gameplay is so unique. I do like our protagonists Mio and Zoe, but even they are designed to be like the main characters of a buddy-cop movie. The main villain Radar is just a cliché bad corporate dude, like it seemed like he was a parody of himself. It Takes Two was able to connect with me and get me invested in the story but Split Fiction is just a fun game with a formulaic story to be the stitching between the set pieces. Also they removed the small 1v1 mini games which is a shame. Still a fantastic and fun game, just wish that the narrative was better.
