4.5/5 ★ – DarrensTrashBag's review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Skyrim contains one of the most iconic, content packed, highly detailed open worlds. There are so many things that you can do that it becomes overwhelming. If you are not dedicated to spending several hundred hours with this game, then I recommend completing the main questlines. I completed the ones that intrigued me like the dark brotherhood and the thieves guild, and then just do the main story until I defeated the "final boss". The world building is excellent with tons of lore packed in. Honestly a majority of the lore dumps become quite boring to me. However, with what quests that I did complete, I had a great time.
What hurts Skyrim as a game is the fact that this is a Bethesda game. I encountered glitches a lot during my playthrough. Most of them were the pathing of the NPC's breaking or NPC's teleporting. Sometimes optimal objectives for quests can't be completed despite completing them. I understand that this game is bigger than most games that come out today but some patches would be quite nice.
Finally, what I think is the worst part of the game: the combat. It is very dull. It is better than Morrowind and Oblivion but still extremely boring. You spam the attack button until you kill an enemy or they hurt you in which you retreat, heal, and continue hitting them. The worst thing was fighting dragons. They can just fly to the top or behind a mountain, decide never to land, or move quickly so that you cannot shoot them or use magic. Fighting dragons sucked until you get the shout that forces a dragon to land, which is 3/4ths of the way through the main story quests.
Overall, the best game Bethesda's main team has developed but was still developed by Bethesda.
