4.5/5 ★ – DarrensTrashBag's review of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

I really enjoyed the exploration, narrative, and puzzle-solving aspect of this game greatly. What unfortunately tarnishes the experience is the combat. A majority of the time I would avoid fighting anything because the process is just waiting for your guy to kill the other guy, no matter how many guys you go through, you will win the fight. This wouldn't be so bad if the game doesn't focus on the combat so much, but sadly it does quite a bit. That is the only part of the game I didn't really enjoy. What I did enjoy are the dungeons and the prelude to the dungeons. Here is my ranking of all the dungeons from worst to best: 7. Eldin Temple: I really hated the layout of this dungeon, with you needing to use the same platform fifty times and also use the worst version of bombs in all the games. I did like Darston's story but in terms of what you need to do in game to progress, its quite boring. The worst part of this arc is the boss Volvagia, easily the worst boss in the game. He takes like four times longer to fight than the other bosses. You also have to deal with his annoying attacks, which there are only like three of them so he isn't even interesting design-wise, while also trying to get close enough to spawn a darknut or use your sword. It is just a horrible experience. 6. Sunthorn Ruins: the first dungeon is just tutorial stuff, nothing really groundbreaking. Just kind of a boring dungeon. 5. Gerudo Sanctum: I did not find getting to this dungeon to be all that engaging or memorable. Typical desert dungeon with a pretty good boss. 4. Hyrule Castle: An alright Hyrule castle, but that Ganon fight... I don't know if I am getting worse at video games but that Ganon fight was the hardest one in a long time, probably since the oracle final boss. Other than that, it was ok. 3. Jabul Ruins: I really like the feud between the River and the Sea Zora. The new characters are really fun and interesting. With this being the water temple, it really was pretty good. I just didn't enjoy the boss all too much. 2. Faron Temple: I do like the reintroduction of the deku and their obsession of cotton candy that one of them is willing to sacrifice their friends to get more. Really enjoyed the silly, wholesome, cute arc. Temple was good but I was more focused on the Deku. 1. Lanayru Temple: Literally peak, Condé is one of their best characters. He should be the main character. Even though the temple had iffy ice physics, the boss of the temple made up for it. But this arc/temple is on the top just because of Condé. Overall this is a really great Zelda game, easily one of the best 2D games. But the combat really pushes it down a bit. Try to get the Lynel in the first hour of the game, then you win. 92/100
