4.5/5 ★ – Dehds's review of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.
Oh wowsie, improves a lot on Arena, besides that felt like there were a lot less riddles and the ones present can either be brute forced or just run around, which is slightly less convenient. Firstly, I did start with the dosbox version at first and managed to finish the first dungeon and soon after it started crashing over and over, so it was easier to switch to the unity version, which felt amazing. As for the game itself, the dungeons felt more complex and with the addition of free camera it felt a lot more immersing to play and avoided some awkward situations with loot and fixed camera in Arena. Side content is much richer with the different guilds and the ability to summon Daedra and get quite unique item rewards. And as for the main questline, a fair warning is order to those like me, that go for all the side content first. The first quest you get after the tutorial is on a time limit and if it expires basically the campaign is failed, which I found out 60 hours in... anyways console command can easily start the quest over and everything was good again. The story itself felt interesting and it really let's you investigate and later on make choices based on that info and your personal interests, which lead to different endings. And the final dungeon was also such a huge change of pace from all the others and quite fun and unique. The addition of books is awesome as well as how some books are interconnected and you'll see things from one book mentioned in another, which made the story feel more alive. Also cool to see that some books even survived to be Skyrim (though, some here are a bit more... well let's say expressive, which was cut out in Skyrim), but also some longer books have sections that repeat several times in book at times, so some do need to be proofread. On a final note, it was actually pretty epic when I found out I could buy an actual ship, though, felt a bit let down when said ship couldn't move and had 0 furniture, but ey it's my ship! And remember that everything has weight, even gold, so your pockets will be dinging with coins because you won't have space to carry much more, unless you like being broke and shipless that is.
